How to Pass Safety Inspections

How to Pass Safety Inspections

Your vehicle needs to pass safety inspections

Do you know how to pass state inspections? In Missouri, all motor vehicles must pass a vehicle safety inspection performed by an authorized Missouri inspection station unless exempt under certain conditions. You will receive a renewal notice from the Department of Revenue that will help you determine if your vehicle needs to have a safety inspection. Northland Auto Pro in Gladstone, Missouri, is a Missouri inspection station with a highly experienced team of ASE-certified mechanics that will make your vehicle ready for inspection.

You need a Certificate of Inspection and Approval

The inspection station will issue you a Certificate of Inspection and Approval. You must present it to a license office when your motor vehicle is registered. Make sure to submit your Certificate of Inspection and Approval, and it’s only valid for 60 days starting with the inspection date. Your Certificate of Inspection and Approval must be valid and submitted at the time of application for title and license or registration renewal (unless your vehicle is exempt).

When you purchase a motor vehicle from a Missouri dealer, you will get a Certificate of Inspection and Approval that is valid for 90 days starting with the inspection date. The certificate provided by a Missouri dealer ensures the safety inspection was completed within 60 days before the purchase date. A valid Certificate of Inspection and Approval must be submitted at the time of application for title and license (unless your vehicle is exempt).

Important information for safety inspections

Vehicle ownership changes should be on record for state inspections. Additionally, even model year vehicles must undergo safety/emissions inspection (unless exempt) on even calendar years. Odd model year vehicles must pass inspections (unless exempt) on odd calendar years.

Exemptions

As of August 28, 2019, all motor vehicles that are exempt from safety inspection are in the first ten years following the model year of manufacture and also have less than 150,000 miles on the odometer.
